Oconee County Economic Development Director Jim Alexander has announced his retirement effective June 30, 2012.  Jim has served as the Director since December of 1999, and is very proud of the many accomplishments he’s been a part of since his arrival.

County Administrator Scott Moulder said he and Jim have discussed the restructuring of the Economic Development Commission for about a year. A restructure offers the County an opportunity to advertise and select a new Economic Development Director, while utilizing Jim’s experience to assist the new director during the transition.

Until his retirement date, Jim will continue working with the existing industrial family and continue to encourage that family to increase their local investments and job creation strategies.  He will also be working on other special projects.

The new director will continue to build a team that will encourage new businesses of all varieties to come to Oconee County.  Additional efforts will be placed on the development of and the marketing of the Golden Corner Commerce Center and Echo Hills Park.

Jim and his wife Martha plan to remain in the area and stay active in the many organizations they are affiliated with.  Jim has indicated his previous two retirements didn’t work out so don’t be surprised if he jumps to another career after taking some time off.
